Food Trend Thursday: Brown Butter

I struggle putting this on my Food Trend Thursday tag because frankly this culinary masterpiece is timeless. I mean take your breath away, flavor town USA, timeless work of kitchen beauty. I'm talking all about browned butter. The process caramelizes the sugars present in butter and creates the most amazing flavor profile to any baked good. If you have never browned butter before, you should start and I’m going to walk you through how to do it.

1. Plan on giving your full attention to the butter for a solid 7-10 min.
2. Melt the butter on medium to low heat, stirring and watching consistently.
3. The butter is going to melt, foam, bubble, and then brown.
4. When you get to the bubble stage, you’re going to think you did something wrong because it doesn’t look like melted butter anymore. At this point, start smelling the butter.
5. Watch the bottom of the pot and try to pick up the nutty smell. All of a sudden you’ll start to see golden and then BROWN!
6. Remove off the heat because you don’t want to go from brown to burnt.

Now that you’ve made browned butter, use it muffins, baked goods and even rice crispy treats!
