Food Trend Thursday: Turmeric
Spice It Up
I enjoy
keeping up with the trends. For instance the leopard is most definitely a
neutral in terms of my closet and although many have stopped to offer to help
me repair my denim most of my jeans now look like they have been through a
paper shredded.(I will say the whole mom jean and croc trend is something I can’t
quite bite the bullet on.) My trend loving self also translates itself into
food as well. The second I heard about spreading avocado on toast, I was like “YASS
QUEEN”. One trend that has been on my radar, but I haven’t committed to quite
yet packs a punch with color and flavor. It also boasts some pretty hefty
health claims. I am talking about Turmeric.
Turmeric is vivid orange spice that is common in a variety
of Asian cuisine. It is many times paired with curry to help color a dish. It
has a bitter flavor with a warming taste that is similar to a curry or cumin. Multiple
studies have been done to monitor the effectiveness of turmeric as an
anti-inflammatory agent in the body. So if you are looking to add spice and
color to your meals, try turmeric! Here are some recipes that I look forward to
testing.
Turmeric Latte

If you’ve been there
and done that with the green matcha latte, try a golden milk latte! It’s a fun
addition to your morning routine or nutritious swap to warm up instead of your
usual hot chocolate. In a medium sauce pan, heat up 2 cups of low fat milk (you
can use soy or almond milk), 1 tsp turmeric, 1 tsp honey, a pinch of ground
ginger, and ½ tsp of cinnamon. Stir frequently until honey and spices are
incorporated and the milk is warmed.
Turmeric Poached Eggs
Want to add a little
color and flavor to your breakfast? If you are poaching eggs, add a teaspoon of
turmeric into the water. Your eggs will be a beautiful color and definitely Instagram
worthy.
Turmeric Roasted Chickpeas
Need a crunchy,
spiced snack? Rinse and dry 1 can of chickpeas and add to a mixing bowl. To the
chickpeas, add 1 tbsp. olive oil, 1 tsp turmeric, ½ tsp salt, ½ tsp curry
powder, and ½ tsp cumin. Cook in an air fryer at 390 degrees for 12-18 minutes
or in an oven at 425 for 20 minutes.
Stay tuned for more
food trends and how to bring them to your kitchen. #trendy
