Food Trend Thursday: Collagen Lattes
Collagen Lattes
Move over cream and
sugar, there is a new addition to the morning coffee routine. Where almond,
soy, or even oat milk used to be the trendiest new addition to your coffee, I
am seeing an ever growing trend of a protein boost in your morning cup.
Bloggers, Pinterest, Instagram, and even Starbucks are promoting the need to
protein packed coffee. So let’s break it down…

With the rise of low
carb, high protein diets, everyone is looking for ways to sneak more protein
into the diet. The most common protein
source that is being added to coffee is in the form of Collagen Peptides. Probably seen this from your favorite blogger? This
has become the newest addition to the morning skin care routine for many.
Collagen Peptides they are sold in a powder form either in a jar or in little
(crystal light looking) packs that dissolve into coffee or smoothies not
affecting flavor, but only affecting the nutritional properties. But is it
worth all the hype? First off, what are collagen peptides? Collagen peptides are protein molecules that
come from the connective tissues of animals such as ligaments and tendons.
Studies have shown that ingestion of collagen peptides did reverse the effects
of chronologically aged skin in mice – meaning it helped the overall look and
feel of the skin tissue. And although more research needs to be done in a
double blind study of 23 subjects, oral supplementation of collagen showed to
improve skin elasticity and skin moisture! So collagen lattes may be a great
way to jumpstart your day and take care of your skin.
Stay tuned for next
week’s food trend and how to bring them to your kitchen and how to keep it
#trendy.
